The temperature in Sherborn is an unseasonably warm 73 degrees F. In June, this fragrant white azalea perfumes the air in my yard. These charming little wildflowers are called daisy fleabane. Wild bergamot in full bloom. These native wildflowers are easy to start from seed. Tom turkey strutting his stuff! This is the American Copper, Lycaena phlaeas, a small, fairly common butterfly. The larvae eat the leaves of sheep sorrel and dock, both of which are European plants brought to Massachusetts by the English settlers. Most likely, this butterfly hitchhiked along with those weeds. In August 2018 I was driving along Western Avenue at dawn and saw this beautiful view across the fields at Silverwood Farm.
